Research Mission

A multi-phase qualitative study examining GenAI literacy in library and information science education.

Our Approach

Guided by established learning and competency perspectives - including McClelland's competency model, Bloom's taxonomy, activity-oriented learning, and self-regulated learning - we employ a multi-phase qualitative research design. Our methods span autoethnography, semi-structured interviews, and participatory design, allowing us to examine GenAI-mediated learning and instruction from multiple angles across the LIS educational ecosystem.

Research Themes

GenAI Literacy & Competency

Mapping the competencies LIS students and professionals need to effectively, critically, and responsibly engage with generative AI tools - drawing on established frameworks like Bloom's taxonomy and McClelland's competency model.

LIS Curriculum & Professional Learning

Examining how library and information science programs can design and integrate GenAI-related curricular experiences that prepare future librarians for AI-mediated information environments.

Student Learning Practices

Investigating how LIS students currently engage with generative AI in academic tasks - through autoethnography and interviews - to surface authentic GenAI-mediated learning patterns and challenges.

Information Credibility & Verification

Understanding how people evaluate the credibility of GenAI-generated information, and developing deskilling-risk indicators, verification supports, and assessment rubrics to guide responsible use.
